psyche + spirit
In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.
Is it just me, or does it seem we've lost our way in this world, like we've
been separated from nature ― the nature of the wild we once inhabited freely, the nature of raw land underfoot with
cathedral skies overhead, the nature of our selves? Separation from self seeds existential
confusion, sparking a crescendoing call for "leaders." Humanity doesn't need a
clique of leaders; we are equipped with what we need and are wired to
self-direct in compatible groups. In fact, we'd be far better off without them as our naiveté and
compassion are regularly exploited to lead us astray. While these psychological tactics are
not well known, they've been around for ages and are constantly tweaked
and amplified, now paired with omnipresent technologies that broadcast
monolithic directives around the world on command. In the technotronic society the trend would seem to be
towards the aggregation of the individual support of millions of
uncoordinated citizens, easily within the reach of magnetic and attractive
personalities exploiting the latest communications techniques to
manipulate emotions and control reason.
All we need to navigate this realm is within us, built-in
at conception. We just need to rediscover our intuition and combine it with practical learning
to forge our own way based on this innate system. This idea of autonomy and self-discovery is central to many philosophies and religions
― future posts
will explore these tenets. Word: A collection of images and meditations
As predicted, these advanced tools have been used to rob us of our agency
and supplant individual thinking with the opinions of curated "experts". The problem, now apparent, is that
the experts do not work for the people
― they work for the machine.
